Accessibility at Athlos Iron Lair

Last updated: 9/1/2026

Athlos Iron Lair is a 17,500 square foot strength training facility at 22715 Hawthorne Blvd, Unit B, Torrance, California, operated by Arete Athlos LLC. We want the gym and this website to be usable by as many people as possible. If something here gets in your way, we would rather hear about it than have you give up quietly.

Our commitment

Arete Athlos LLC complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Unruh Civil Rights Act, the California Disabled Persons Act, and related federal and state law. We do not discriminate on the basis of disability, and we will take the steps required of us to give members and guests with disabilities full and equal enjoyment of our facility and our services.

Getting into the building and around the floor

The gym is on a single floor. There are no stairs or lifts between training areas — the main floor, the free weight area and the outdoor strength zone are all on the same level.

If you are not sure whether the layout will work for you, call or email before you visit. We will tell you what to expect rather than let you find out at the door.

Asking for an accommodation

If you need a change to a policy, practice or procedure in order to use the gym — help with a machine, a different way to check in, information given to you in another format — tell any member of staff, or contact us using the details at the end of this page.

You do not need to tell us your diagnosis. There is no charge for an accommodation.

We aim to respond to accommodation requests within 24 hours.

Service animals

Service animals are welcome throughout the facility, including the training floor and the outdoor strength zone.

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, a service animal is a dog individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability. Separate federal rules cover trained miniature horses. California law additionally protects guide dogs, signal dogs and service dogs, and people who are training such a dog.

Where it is not obvious what service an animal provides, our staff may ask only two questions: whether the animal is required because of a disability, and what work or task it has been trained to perform. We will not ask about your disability, ask to see documentation, or ask the animal to demonstrate its task.

Please keep your animal harnessed, leashed or tethered, unless a harness or lead would interfere with its work or your disability prevents you from using one — in which case please keep it under control by other means. Your animal must be housebroken.

We may ask you to remove an animal that is out of control and is not brought back under control, or that is not housebroken. If that happens, you are welcome to continue your session without the animal.

There is no charge for a service animal. You are responsible for any damage your animal causes, on the same terms as any other member.

Animals whose only function is to provide comfort or emotional support are not service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

This website

Our target for this site is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 at Level AA. On 1 September 2026 we audited all 182 pages of this site against that standard and fixed everything the audit found. Automated testing cannot cover everything a person would notice, so we are not claiming full conformance — but we are no longer aware of a failure we have not fixed. We do not use an automated accessibility overlay.

What that audit changed: text and background colors across the whole site now meet the contrast levels the standard asks for, including the header, the footer, and both of our forms. Every control shows a visible outline when you reach it with the keyboard — including the “skip to content” link, whose outline had been invisible against its own background. Pages no longer scroll sideways on a narrow phone screen. Our videos carry a caption track noting that they have no spoken commentary, and a written description of what each one shows. Photographs on our blog have been described in text, and newsletter pages that had been published as pictures of text now have their full wording on the page.

What is checked automatically, every time the site is built: page language, images without a text description, duplicate element identifiers, controls without a name a screen reader can announce, a working skip-to-content link, and the contrast of every text and background combination our stylesheet defines. A build that fails any of those checks does not go live. Form errors are announced to screen readers, marked on the field itself, and move keyboard focus to the first field that needs attention.

What is not finished: this site has not yet been walked through end to end by a person using a screen reader, and we have not commissioned an independent audit. Several hundred images are marked as decorative, and we have not reviewed each one individually to confirm that none of them carries information. That work is ongoing.

If you hit a barrier on this website, tell us. We will fix it, and in the meantime we will get you the same information another way.

Content from other companies

Parts of this website include content provided by third parties, such as embedded video. We do not control that content and cannot make representations about how accessible it is. If you have difficulty with it, tell us and we will get you the same information another way.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

We share limited information — such as advertising identifiers and the pages you visit — with Google and Meta so we can measure our ads and show them to people who might want a gym in Torrance. Under California law you can tell us to stop.
